Childhood and Youth

Spencer is just one of the characters in this book who seems to have been very affected by events in his youth. Spencer's adult life has been molded by his experience cooking lobsters at the Steer by the Shore. Catherine and John must have been very affected by their summer vacations at the Seton home in New Hamsphire (Charlotte and Willow call it the "Seton New England Boot Camp"). In what ways do you think that Catherine and John's lives were affected by their upbringing in the Seton home?
