September's book

is The Great Deluge by Douglas Brinkley. It is now two years since Hurricane Katrina. Brinkely's book brings us back to the events of those days and let's those of us who weren't there in on exactly what happened. Filled with the personal stories of people who lived that experience, as well as an overview of the events and statistical information, Brinkley, a New Orleans resident, tries to describe the almost indescribable.

Many of the postings on the blog this month will involve articles and websites about Katrina. This book has its own website, www.thegreatdeluge.net. The Historic New Orleans Collection also launched an oral history project which is a part of its website on Katrina available at http://www.hnoc.org/Katsite%20/Kat.html#.
