Did you get your free book?

As a part of the grant provided by the NEA, Norwalk Public Library has been able to offer free copies of the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. If you come to the Main Library or the South Norwalk Branch library and show your Norwalk Library card (or apply for a card if you are a Norwalk resident), and you agree to read the book, you can get a free copy of the book. We also have copies of the book that can be checked out with a library card from any Connecticut library. If you are a resident of one of the other particpating towns (Stamford, Shelton, Bridgeport), you can also obtain free copies of the book in your own town. This discussion is open to everyone interested in discussing the book. But we'd be interested in knowing if you picked up the free book or if you obtained the book some other way.

Oh wow! That is really generous! I had no idea and I consider myself somewhat "plugged in"...is it possible that there could be more publicity?

Are such "free book" things on going projects or is this special for "To Kill a Mockingbird"?

This "free book" is offered in conjunction with the BIG READ. The Big Read grant from the NEA includes funding for the actual books and the book chosen for the BIG READ for this area is "To Kill a Mockingbird". So, we are offering free copies of "To Kill a Mockingbird" to Norwalk library cardholders. But there are also copies available for checkout to other town library cardholders.
There have been a number of ads in The Hour about the free books, but I guess we need to do more advertising.
