Impact of Katrina on Criminal Justice System

There have been a number of follow up studies done investigating the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. One, titled "After Katrina: Washed Away?" was recently published by the Urban Institute and examines the criminal justice system in Orleans Parish (New Orleans). www.urban.org/publications/411530.html. Before Katrina, the New Orleans criminal justice system had its problems including funding problems and weak management. After the hurricane, however, the system has been barely functioning. This study looks at the facts. In Brinkley's book we see the plight of the "forgotten" people. Are not those in the criminal justice system some of the most forgotten? What about the victims of crime-crime that took place before the hurricane and crime that took place during the hurricane?
